Juan and Andrea

Juan Boned, a fisherman from Formentera, fell in love with Andrea, a woman from Soria, while he was still sailing.
They were blissfully happy and they accepted a job which threw them together all day long without any other human company: for 14 years they were the custodians of the uninhabited island of s'Espalmador, which is privately owned.
In 1972 they decided that they could combine this job with running a small “chiringuito” or beach bar on Illetes beach. At that time it could only be reached by sea and was frequented by those who had sailed by boat from Ibiza. Juan would go off fishing and Andrea would serve up the delicious things he brought home, in idyllic surroundings. Over time a small road was built so that the bar could be reached by land and the place became fashionable. The business continued to grow and now the couple's three sons -Juanjo, Andres and Jorge- have taken over the running of this excellent establishment where the waiters walk barefoot in the sand in their immaculate whites.

THE STORE CUPBOARD

Juan and Andrea’s specialities all have a taste of the sea.
The restaurant tables are set out on the sand and the atmosphere is kept cool thanks to the shade of the terrace. Served this way, the fish could not taste better. Why not start by trying some clams a la marinera, grilled sardines, fresh Formentera prawns, or any of the house salads. For the main dish choose a lobster or spiny lobster with garlic, grilled lobster, lobster paella, fish paella, fresh fish grill or grilled gilt head bream, to name just a few of the delicacies on offer. If you prefer meat, you can choose from beef tenderloin or lamb chops. Desserts include a juicy strawberry tart.
The wine list specialises in white wines, cavas and champagne.
